About me and my work
:
My work falls into 2 categories: commercial (illustration) and self-directed (for exhibition).

As an illustrator, my commercial work is set within boundaries created by my clients. Previous clients have included American Express and the Wetherspoon's chain of pubs. I am currently working on projects with several charities to produce work for publications, t-shirts and postcards. I am always looking for opportunities to produce work in new fields and am looking at children's books, pattern design, t-shirt design, etc.

The second area I work in is self-directed. These images are more personal and geared towards exhibition. I see it as an opportunity to create more experimental work and be more self-indulgent. In all my work, I aim to work in and with paper, cutting and painting to create an image. I aim to use paper for 3D work in the future. I like to include a recycled theme in my work, and by using existing papers/card and mixing with my own handmade paper, I can create unusual textures and colours. As you can see from some of the life studies, I like to combine the painted backgrounds with charcoal or pen and ink to create an image. My next step is to experiment with this technique, using scanned backgrounds and computer line drawings.

I am a member of the Association of Illustrators and ATL/NATFHE. My work is on several slide libraries, including Slidex/Liverpool Design Initiative. I have also taught Adult Education classes in art/craft for the Workers Education Association, and several local institutions, including the Friends of the Whitworth in Manchester and the Trafford Art Group. I have a PGCE for post-16, having taught at several colleges in the North West.

I have also completed a commissioned mural for the de Verre Village chain of Hotels and would like to create more work in this area.
